Part of West College Avenue in Ferguson Township was closed for about nine hours on Saturday after a driver who police believe was under the influence of alcohol crashed into a utility pole.
A 29-year-old woman driving a Buick sedan at about 2:50 a.m. on the 2200 block of West College Avenue left the road and “struck and sheared off a utility pole before coming to rest in a grassy area off the roadway,” township police said in a statement.
The damage to the pole caused low hanging wires across the road. An unsuspecting driver of a box truck then drove into the wires, which sheared off the roof of the truck.
The driver of the Buick was arrested on suspicion of DUI and charges are pending toxicology results, police said. No one was injured in the incident.
West College Avenue in the area of the crash was closed while crews replaced the utility pole. It reopened to traffic by 12:30 p.m., according to police.
Alpha Fire Department, Alpha Fire Police, Centre LifeLink EMS, Stewart’s Towing, PennDOT and Verizon assisted at the scene.
